Replacing rechargeable cells The batteries used in solar-powered watches such as Eco-Drive watches are rechargeable cells. Rechargeable cells can be recharged repeatedly and, unlike conventional batteries, they do not need to be regularly replaced. Watches Powered by Light Eco-Drive is designed to convert both natural and artificial light into energy to power watches. Watches with Eco-Drive do not require any battery replacement, charging or winding to maintain constant operation.Eco-Drive watches use a rechargeable energy cell, not a standard disposable battery. The energy cell is charged by light — solar or indoor — through the dial’s solar panel. However, the rechargeable cell does eventually wear out (typically after 10–20 years) and requires replacement by an authorized service center.
