Who owns Gazelle bikes?
In 2011 Gazelle was acquired by Pon Holdings, co-owner of Cervélo bikes, and importer of Volkswagen in the Netherlands. Royal Dutch Gazelle was founded in 1892. This marked the beginning of the Gazelle ‘Rijwielfabriek’, located at the very same spot where it stands proudly to this day: Dieren, Gelderland, the Netherlands. Why is it called Gazelle?
The name Gazelle has its origins in Latin, where it derives from the word gazella. The Latin term gazella was used to refer to a small, graceful deer primarily found in the African and Eurasian continents. This delicate and nimble creature is known for its exceptional grace and swiftness. A gazelle is a graceful little antelope that’s native to Africa and Asia. Gazelles are extremely fast, running at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.
