Why did SUPER73 get sued?
The lawsuit filed by California resident Hillary Whitman on Dec. The complaint doesn’t stop at calling Super73 models illegal. It goes as far as labeling them motorcycles. The document even accuses the brand of producing “motorcycles masquerading as e-bikes. It cites several local police departments, school districts, and bicycle coalitions that agree with that assessment, as well. All SUPER73 bikes are in full compliance with UK law. Why is Super73 getting sued?
According to the lawsuit, Super73 misrepresented that its vehicles are e-bikes under the law, including by labeling them as Class 2 e-bikes, leading consumers to believe they were purchasing e-bikes that did not require a license, registration, or insurance to operate. And most of them are Super73. In May 2024, Chief Norton, along with other local police chiefs, issued a letter to Marin County school parents explaining that vehicles like Super73s are not legal e-bikes under the California Vehicle Code.
